A Message To Garcia...

On several occasions in the past couple of weeks I
have been actively involved with Club members who
are having significant challenges with members of their team
 
If it's not a contractor, its a real estate agent, or a
lender.  You name and it seems that at any point in
time each of us as investors are dealing with some
member of our team letting us down.
 
In most cases my advise has been to help them better
manage the situation and in several cases I have recommended
firing these non-perfuming team members outright.
 
So... where does this letter to Mr. Garcia come in you are asking?
 
If you follow this link http://www.birdsnest.com/garcia.htm you
will be taken to a short essay written in the 1899 by
Elbert Hubbard.   In his essay Mr. Hubbard describes how
President McKinley needed to get a message through the
mountains of Cuba to General Garcia during the Spanish-American
war and how one man was recommended above all other to
deliver that message.  That man's name was simply "Rowan". 
 
In the end, against enormous odds, Rowan delivered that letter to
General Garcia.  As the essay goes... Rowan did not ask how to
find Garcia, where he was, what methods to employ to find him...
he just set out and indeed found General Garcia and delivered the
crucial message.
 
I encourage you to read the entire essay... for it not only tells the
brief story of Rowan and "The Letter to Garcia", but goes on to
discuss how then and even more so now, it is next to impossible to
find others who will honestly and earnestly get that letter to Garcia.
 
After reading Mr. Hubbard's essay you might find it appropriate to
reflect on the participants on your team and ask yourself this...
 
"Can I rely on this person/company to be my Rowan... to
carry that letter to Garcia.  Getting the job done without
unending questions, constant input or management from me?
 
If your answer to that question is yes... consider yourself
extremely fortunate.  If the answer is no... well then
perhaps it's time to find others who are ready, willing
and able to carry your letter to Garcia.
 
Finding good team members is critical to any business.
  Developing trusting relationships with them is mandatory
for the greater the trust in the relationship, the faster the
pace of your business.
 
I will leave you with one last comment... On February 7th
The Club is sponsoring another Help Days.  The last two
were wildly successful and I anticipate that this one will be
as well.  You can count on the fact that several "team"
members, all vendors currently being used by Club members,
will be at this event.  If you want to learn how to find your own "
Rowans" who without question or complaint will get your letter
