To say that this past year has been a record breaker would be an understatement!
As a nation, we have experienced the results of poor public policy, outright greed from the high-flying finance types on Wall Street, to even us common folks on the Main Street, and the terrible impact this has wrought on many of our lives.
It has been a year of historic firsts...our president-elect, who regardless of your political affiliation ran one of the best campaigns ever, will be our first African-American president.
Our economy has been severely challenged from the first day of 2008...banks and lending markets have frozen, more people are out of work...and as real estate investors...well for some, everyday seems like it could be the last for those investors who have failed to navigate these tumultuous markets intelligently.
Yet, as I look back on this past year with all of its challenges and victories (yes, there have been victories), I ask myself...what should I be thankful for this holiday season? I would like to share my answer with you!
First...I must express my deepest thanks for every person who had the determination and courage to either stay in or get involved in real estate investing. You are to be commended. For, without your participation, many of our cities and neighborhoods would not benefit from the risks you take every day to improve them.
I thank you for your ambition, bravery and perseverance.
Second...I am grateful for the many real estate investors who call themselves Club members. Even though their coaches are supposed to be the experts with answers at the ready...it is our members, time and again, who, through their actions, questions, challenges, successes and, yes, sometimes failures, have taught us more than we ever thought possible.
To every Club member, I thank you!
Third...to the many vendors who stand at the ready to support not only my investing, but the investing of every Club Member. Without this strong group of dedicated vendors, making profits in our current environment would be next to impossible.
Fourth...to all of the Club coaches: Steve Cook, Craig Fuhr, Nate Andree, Jerry Dalglish, Tim Porterfield, Steve Cavanaugh, Andrea Campo, and Tony Verner. Every one of them successful real estate investors in their own right. Each stepping up to assist anyone who seeks their guidance...especially their mastermind members.
To our coaches: thank you for focusing on the successes of each of your mastermind members.
Fifth...To my business partners in The Club. To Steve Cook for his brilliance and the "ideas" guy and his caution in the face of my ready-fire-aim approach. To Matt and Nadir who, on more than one occasion this year, have had to put up with my demands and wrath when things were not going as I had planned. Without these strong and dedicated partners, The Club would not be what it is today.
To each one of you, thank you for your support.
Sixth and last...but not least...to my wife Vicky. What can I say...without Vicky's guidance, support, and her trust in all that I do as a real estate investor and business owner I would never have achieved the level of success I have in my life.
To Vicky...thanks for being there!
In so many ways - from the obvious, to the things we have to really think about - you and I have much to be thankful for. As real estate investors, I invite you to look back on this past year and find as many things as you can to express your gratitude over.
You will find, as I have, that when you focus on being grateful for what you have, more of what you are thankful for shows up at your doorstep. This is pretty cool, if you ask me!
So...before you get totally consumed by the coming festivities, I encourage you to sit down and give thanks for as many things as you can - to as many people as you can.
I wish you and your family, loved ones and friends the very best throughout the coming holiday.
