It Started Off As Lunch… |
In late 2001, Steve Cook, a prolific investor in Baltimore real estate, looked at his calendar. He felt burned out, and squeezed for time. He had 27 appointments in one month - all of them with real estate investors who offered to buy him lunch, so they could pick his brain. But this wasn’t lunch - it was 2 to 5 hours of conversation, each time. So, he decided to simplify. Anyone who asked him to lunch was told, “You are welcome to join me at the Fuddruckers restaurant every Thursday at 11:30.” This turned around his schedule - and helped free up a bunch of time. Some people needed more time and attention. They said - “Steve, if you help me with my first few deals, I’ll split my profits with you.” And so Steve began to coach investors through their deals. By late 2002, those Fuddrucker meetings had swelled to 30 investors or more each time. They needed a bigger venue. The leaders of the group decided to form an association, the Mid-Atlantic Real Estate Investors Association (MAREIA). |

Who Do YOU Associate With? |
MAREIA grew to be a reputable club where ethics were put before profits, and education was affordably priced. But Steve noticed that most of the people who gathered at these meetings were beginners, or permanent students, who had yet to take down their first deal. It’s said that “steel sharpens steel.” Steve knew that if he wanted to keep growing, he needed to be around other investors of equal or greater calibur to keep his edge. Steve started to hunger for the old days at Fuddruckers, where a small group of serious investors supported each other in business. He reached out to one of those early members - Peter Giardini - now a good friend and co-founder of MAREIA. Pete had since bought hundreds of properties with his partners, and sold them all for top dollar in 2006. |

Experiencing A New Mastermind Environment |
In 2006, Steve and Pete began to meet in earnest, to hold each other accountable to the aggressive goals and visions they brainstormed together. It helped them so much, they knew that there were other investors who would benefit by joining their advanced investor network. Steve and Pete made arrangements to transfer their ownership in MAREIA to their fellow co-founders, and to offer membership to those MAREIA members who wanted a peer group of active, committed investors. In late 2006, Steve and Pete announced their new venture to MAREIA members, and The Club Mastermind was born. |

8 Years In The Making |
The Club was a combination of all the things that Steve and Pete had learned in their networking. There was time to sit down one-on-one with a coach, just like those people who bought Steve lunch back in 2001. And there was the advanced investor networking, just like what took place first at Fuddruckers, and then between Steve and Pete In all, The Club Mastermind today has eight years of trial and error in its design. It features: The power of peer influence to give you an edge in the marketplace, The ethics and education of an exclusive investor club, The support of a face-to-face coach to hold you accountable to your vision, The shared brain power of over a dozen investors solving each other’s business challengesIn sum, The Club is engineered to be the most nurturing environment and rewarding experience that a small group of committed investors can create. It’s designed to put the odds of success, when you invest in real estate, in your favor. This is just a part of the story of The Club Mastermind.
